The study, which will be carried out in partnership with the Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast, will look at different methods of applying ice to the injured ankle, as well as offering early physiotherapy to help aid recovery and minimise re injury.
Dr Chris Bleakley, from the University’s Health and Rehabilitation Sciences Research Institute says the study is particularly important due to the high incidence of recurring injuries.

Ice dancing champion Staviski charged over drunk driving death
SOFIA, Bulgaria: World ice dancing champion Maxim Staviski has been charged over a drunk driving accident that left a man dead and a woman in a coma, prosecutors said Tuesday.
The 30-year-old skater was charged with drunk driving and causing a fatal accident.
“The sentence for such a crime could be from three to 10 years in prison,” public prosecutor Svetlozar Kostov said.
No trial date has been set, and Staviski has not been taken into custody.
Staviski's sport utility vehicle collided with a car in the oncoming lane in the Black Sea city of Burgas on Aug.
